Attached to technology
As we all know technology is taking over the world and is now taking over our lives. The article by Matt Richtel is just one of many that prove this. Today more than ever people are consumed by media and news and with more and more ways to receive this information, out lives are being taken over. In the article they continually refer to Mr. Campbell, a self proclaimed multi tasker junkie. I thought some peoples addiction was bad but his is on a whole different level. Engulfed by his Iphone, Ipad, laptop, and video games, he barely can remember to put his shoes on before walking out the door. The fact that he knows that he will be offline for 221 seconds while going through a tunnel is just unbelievable. But he is not the only one who is a technology addict. Even I will admit that it is an addictive thing. As i type this blog, i have my email, facebook, and blogger in three separate tabs and I also have the television on for some background noise. I don't know what the obsession is with checking on others "facebook status" but it has taken over our brains along with every other multimedia site. With the introduction of the smart phone, facebook, twitter, email, and youtube will never have to leave our side. For me personally I do catch myself just aimlessly wondering about the world wide web in search of the next entertaining headline. Thats why when it comes time for finals, the laptop stays in the bedroom, the phone gets shut off, and you can find me on the second floor of the library. It's the only way for me to actually learn without the temptation of my technological devices. I have a story that can pretty much sums up how much people our addicted to facebook and other websites. Two days ago my old basketball coach (Wayne), who I've know for 10 or so years, was called at work by his wife explaining that their dog had gotten loose and she could not catch him. Wayne left work and arrived home to look for his dog. As Wayne and his father searched for the dog they spotted him on the side of a steep hill. Wayne then decided it would be a good idea to try and crawl down the hill to retrieve the dog. Little did he know that snow is slippery and he proceeded to fall 75 down the hill where he became stuck on a cliff. Not being able to climb back up the hill he called the police to rescue him. During the 90 minute time span that he was stuck on the hill, you would think the last thing on his mind would be facebook. Well your wrong. As he waited to be rescued he left a status reading "Man's best friend my ass... stuck on a cliff trying to rescue my dog" and "Check the news every station is flying around... I'm still on cliff as I update this." Yes I allow you to laugh now. And yes he's alright and so is the dog. But if this doesn't sum up how addicted some people are to technology then I don't know what does. This is a true story and I do know the guy. If you don't believe me you can check out this link. It's pretty much on every news website. http://www.wpxi.com/news/26681074/detail.html Peace out blogger.
